Biography

When I left the world of Physics and Astrophysics, I gambled on becoming a software craftsman or software engineer as I called it then. I went to work for a high precision measurement company and began developing scientific/engineering applications in C++, and later .Net.

Smitten with developing and delivering software, I was pointed at this new fangled 'Agile' thing to see how it could improve our development processes. It was here that I cut my teeth in process improvement and the practices of eXtreme Programming.

Years later I set up Agitek to help other British companies turn up their agility dials, and did so successfully for a number of years.

When it felt like we the industry had crossed the agile chasm, I decided to get back to what I love the most, designing, building and delivering software. I set up Agibuntu, my Micro ISV company. And when I say micro, I mean micro, it's just me.

My goal is to use my knowledge of development techniques and passion for coding to write my own small applications to sell via the internet. The first should be out in autumn this year.

I'm learning a lot of new skills in the process. Marketing, writing, market analysis, customer service etc. Even if I fail miserably, I will be richer through the experience.

Some of my motivations are also to have more time to train for triathlons, to spend more time at home with my wife, Helen, and the offspring, Joe and Ned.
